SUMMARY:Adam O'Farrill's ELEPHANT
DESCRIPTION:Adam O'Farrill -trumpet\, electronics Yvonne Rogers -piano Wa
lter Stinson -bass Russell Holzman -drums LIVESTREAM TICKETS COMING SOON
Acclaimed trumpeter and composer Adam O’Farrill introduces ELEPHANT\, h
is first quartet as the sole horn voice\, with a self-titled debut relea
sed this year via Out of Your Head Records. ELEPHANT unites four rising
New York–based musicians: O’Farrill\, pianist Yvonne Rogers\, bassist Wa
lter Stinson\, and drummer Russell Holzman. Rogers combines deep study w
ith fearless spontaneity\; Stinson balances consummate fundamentals with
  elastic\, expressive musicianship\; and Holzman—an old friend of O’Farr
ill’s from LaGuardia High School—melds natural swing with high-precision
\, electronic-rooted rhythms and a finely tuned sense of dynamics. ELEPH
ANT draws from a wide constellation of musical influences—post-bop\, ele
 ctronic music\, classical minimalism\, Radiohead\, Jonny Greenwood’s fil
 m scores\, Ryuichi Sakamoto\, and more—absorbed organically rather than
as overt crossover gestures. The album’s centerpiece\, The Sea Triptych\
, reflects water’s comfort and mystery across three pieces\, from the cr
ashing textures of “Along the Malecon” to the ambient meditation “The Th
ree of Us\, Floating” and the percussive\, groove-driven “Iris Murdoch.”
Elsewhere\, the quartet’s striking reinvention of Sakamoto’s “Bibo No A
ozora” replaces strings with trumpet\, delay\, and electronic harmony wi
thout sacrificing the instrument’s essential voice. ELEPHANT captures O’
Farrill fully inhabiting his moment—confident\, curious\, and unafraid t
o let contemporary influences reshape the language of modern jazz on his
own terms. Bio: Brooklyn native and multi-racial composer and trumpeter
\, Adam O’Farrill\, has "...established himself as one of the most impor
tant musicians of the 21st Century" (NPR Fresh Air) and “a blazing young
trumpet talent” (The New York Times). Of course\, none one of this come
s as any surprise\, considering the rich musical lineage into which he w
as born: Adam’s grandfather was the boundary-pushing Cuban composer and
arranger\, Chico O’Farrill\; his father is the composer\, pianist\, and
 activist\, Arturo O’Farrill\; his mother\, Alison Deane\, is a classical
pianist and educator\; his brother and frequent collaborator\, Zack O’F
arrill\, is a drummer and musicologist. Adam himself has been featured w
ith the likes of Hiromi\, Mary Halvorson\, Vijay Iyer\, Tyshawn Sorey\,
 Anna Webber\, Mulatu Astatke\, Son Lux\, Samora Pinderhughes\, Rudresh M
ahanthappa\, and Photay\, and has garnered widespread acclaim as a leade
r in his own right. Adam’s most recent album\, ELEPHANT\, was released i
n 2026\, in which he fronted a quartet featuring Yvonne Rogers\, Walter
Stinson\, and Russell Holzman\, playing music containing influences that
are electronic\, cinematic\, and avant-garde. The album was critically
acclaimed by The Wire\, Popmatters\, and The Observer\, who called the a
lbum\, "...a propulsive journey through the sharp edges of modern improv
isation." The album placed #3 on the 2026 Francis Davis Mid-Year Jazz Cr
itics Poll. Prior to that\, Adam released four albums documenting his lo
ngtime quartet Stranger Days\, including 2021’s Visions of Your Other\,
was named one of 2021’s best jazz albums by The New York Times\, The Bos
ton Globe\, and Popmatters\, and was awarded the Preis Der Deutschen Sch
allplattenkritik in January 2022. In 2025\, O’Farrill released For These
  Streets\, a suite inspired by the culture\, literature\, and music of t
he 1930’s\, performed by an octet composed of the world’s foremost impro
 visors\, including Mary Halvorson\, Patricia Brennan\, Kevin Sun\, David
Leon\, Kalun Leung\, Tyrone Allen\, and Tomas Fujiwara. The Wall Street
Journal says\, “Mr. O’Farrill here makes his boldest statement as a com
poser…he extends a storied lineage…[and] has his own distinct vision.” I
n 2026\, Adam won the Downbeat Critics Poll in three categories: Rising
Star Artist\, Rising Star Trumpet\, and Rising Star Arranger. He has als
o received awards and commissions from The Shifting Foundation\, The Jaz
 z Gallery\, Pierre Boulez Saal\, South Arts\, Baryshnikov Arts\, The Her
 mitage Artist Retreat\, Roulette\, and YoungArts. 1158 Broadway\, 5th fl
