SUMMARY:Tender Is the Wound: Making Art from What Hurts
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a gathering of five writers -- Francesca Lia Bloc
 k\, Hannah Eko\, Laurel Ollstein\, Tracey K. Zakai\, Siouxsie Q\, and Da
niel N Birnbaum -- whose work approaches difficult experiences with hone
 sty\, tenderness\, humor\, beauty\, and a little darkness. The central q
uestion of the evening is: What has making art allowed you to survive\,
understand\, transform\, or tell the truth about? Each writer will brief
ly respond to that idea and read work that speaks to it\, followed by co
nversation about what creativity actually does for us during difficult t
imes. I’m especially interested in getting beyond the easy “art heals” a
nswer and talking honestly about why we make things from the experiences
that hurt us--especially during this time when so much pain is at the f
orefront of people's minds. About the participants: Francesca Lia Block\
, MFA is the author of more than thirty books and editor of Lit Angels o
n Substack. She teaches creative writing at Antioch University Los Angel
