SUMMARY:WAR: 50th Anniversary Greatest Hit Tour & Poncho Sanchez
DESCRIPTION:WAR\, one of music’s defining and most enduring soul/funk gro
 ups\, was founded in Long Beach\, California\, in 1962. In 1970\, produc
er Jerry Goldstein united the seven-piece band with former Animals lead
singer Eric Burdon\; the alliance produced the No. 1 worldwide hit “Spil
l the Wine.” Stepping out on their own in 1971\, they launched a fruitfu
l career with a dynamic sound that fused R&B\, rock\, Latin music\, jazz
\, and blues. In 1973\, their smash album The World is a Ghetto vaulted
to No. 1 on Billboard’s pop and R&B charts behind the crossover success
of two top-10 singles\, the album’s socially conscious title song and it
s rollicking follow-up “The Cisco Kid.” Over a long and glittering caree
r\, WAR has rung up more than 20 multi-platinum\, platinum and gold albu
ms and singles. This year\, fronted by co-founding member Lonnie Jordan\
 , the group will celebrate 50 years of 1973’s #1 Billboard top-selling a
 lbum\, The World is a Ghetto\, with a 50-date summer tour\, remixes\, ne
 w releases and more. GRAMMY-winning conguero\, percussionist\, and bandl
eader Poncho Sanchez has been a driving force in Latin jazz for more tha
 n four decades. Blending straight-ahead jazz\, soul\, and Afro-Cuban rhy
thms\, he has carried forward the traditions of legends like Mongo Santa
maria\, Tito Puente\, and Cal Tjader\, with whom he performed for seven
years before launching his acclaimed solo career. Since forming his own
band in 1980\, Sanchez has released more than 30 albums\, including the
GRAMMY-winning Latin Soul. His dynamic recordings and electrifying live
performances have earned him recognition as one of the genre’s most infl
uential artists. His latest release\, Live at The Belly Up Tavern\, capt
ures the energy and passion that continue to define his celebrated caree
