SUMMARY:Visual Art and Coffee: Jill McLennon w/Brandon Zech
DESCRIPTION:Visual Art and Coffee (VA&C) is a series of intimate events h
eld on select Monday mornings at First Light Books that bring artists an
d arts workers together for conversation\, caffeine\, and pastries. The
 program comprises a brief discussion with invited guests\, a Q&A\, and t
ime to browse books and make friends. Each VA&C features a curated selec
tion of books inspired by the guest speakers. For the inaugural event\,
curator and gallerist Jill McLennon will discuss the exhibition Everythi
ng is a Little Surreal\, currently on view at her gallery\, McLennon Pen
Co.\, with Glasstire Publisher Brandon Zech. Bringing together works by
international artists\, including hometown hero Emily Mae Smith\, the e
xhibition shows how contemporary artists employ surrealist aesthetics\,
humor\, and critique as tools for sociopolitical reimagining and psychic
reclamation. This event is organized by the Visual Arts Center at the U
niversity of Texas at Austin. It is supported by First Light Books. $5 t
icket supports the coffee and pastry offerings. Spread the word. RSVP he
