SUMMARY:The International Voices Book Group: A Burning by Megha Majumdar
 (India)
DESCRIPTION:*Please note that we will NOT be meeting in December. Have a
great holiday season and see you in the new year!* The International Voi
ces Book Group meets the second Wednesday of every month at 7 pm. For ou
r November 11th meeting\, we will discuss A Burning by Megha Majumdar. T
he book group is free and all are welcome! Books are available for purch
ase at Reads & Company with a 20% discount. About A Burning: Jivan is a
Muslim girl from the slums\, determined to move up in life\, who is accu
sed of executing a terrorist attack on a train because of a careless com
ment on Facebook. PT Sir is an opportunistic gym teacher who hitches his
aspirations to a right-wing political party and finds that his own asce
nt becomes linked to Jivan's fall. Lovely—an irresistible outcast whose
exuberant voice and dreams of glory fill the novel with warmth and hope
and humor—has the alibi that can set Jivan free\, but it will cost her e
verything she holds dear. Taut\, symphonic\, propulsive\, and riveting f
rom its opening lines\, A Burning is an electrifying debut.\n\nhttps://f
