SUMMARY:Rare Monday\, December 3rd Gathering: Reading and Book Signing! 6
:30pm: ELLIOTT SHARP will read from his new book: â€ËIrRational Music
 ’
DESCRIPTION:On Dec. 3\, 630pm\, at Downtown Music Gallery\, composer and
multi-instrumentalist Elliott Sharp will read from his new book IrRation
 al Music\, a mix of memoir\, music theory\,and ruminations on culture\,
art\, and philosophy. Speaking of IrRational Music\, author Jonathan Let
hem states “Elliott Sharp’s writing\, like his music\, reco
mbines the scrupulously discursive with the deeply humane and reflective
. What a joy it is to be informed by this remarkable account of the comi
ng-of-age of his psyche\, his curiosity\, and his methodology. Sharp pai
nts a picture of lost kingdoms of the avant-garde which aren’t re
ally lost\, but continuous in our present if we’re inclined to no
tice them. With this book\, a reader joins Sharp in the step-by-step rei
nvigoration of intentional sound itself  sound as culture\, as sc
ience\, as art -- a process that can never be finished.† From c
omposer and electronic music pioneer Morton Subotnick: "Sharp is of the
first generation of composers to come of age in a musical environment wh
en everything seemed connected\; Gregorian Chant to John Cage's chance.
His book\, IrRational Music\, is a fascinating window into that moment i
n time when music opened up to everyone and all things became possible.Ã
¢â‚¬Ââ€ËIrRational Music’ is published by TerraNova Books and
distributed by MIT Press. There will be copies available for purchase an
 d signing.\n\nhttps://findlocal.community/event/4678b217-ea58-421b-a3fc-
