SUMMARY:LeVar Burton
DESCRIPTION:Tracing the different eras of his life—from “Roots” to “Star
Trek: The Next Generation” to “Reading Rainbow” and far beyond the camer
a—actor LeVar Burton fearlessly opens up about growing up during the Civ
il Rights Movement\, being raised by a remarkable mother\, and discoveri
ng his calling as a storyteller in Take My Word for It. He explores how
acting has served as both a source of transformation and an escape from
the most difficult parts of his past\, while also confronting the challe
nges of being a parent\, husband\, and householder. As Burton honors the
loved ones whose strength and resilience shaped him\, he also asks what
we owe to our ancestors and to each other\, reflecting on the deep nece
ssity he’s always felt to advocate for liberation and equity. Burton wil
l be in conversation with Michele Norris\, a Peabody and Emmy Award-winn
ing journalist\, the host of the podcast “ Your Mama’s Kitchen\,” and th
e author of Our Hidden Conversations: What Americans Really Think About
 Race and Identity.\n\nMore info: https://www.sixthandi.org/event/levar-b
