SUMMARY:OFFSITE: Jeffrey Zeigler’s – “We Were Fridays” at Weeksville Heri
 tage Center
DESCRIPTION:On October 17\, 2026\, Weeksville Heritage Center and VisionI
ntoArt invite you to a day-long community experience in Brooklyn. The pr
ogram weaves together performance\, creative workshops\, and community c
onversations that explore the key themes and questions of We Were Friday
 s—cultural memory\, Gullah Geechee heritage\, diaspora\, and intergenera
tional storytelling. What’s a Rich Text element? The rich text element a
llows you to create and format headings\, paragraphs\, blockquotes\, ima
ges\, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format the
m individually. Just double-click and easily create content. Static and
dynamic content editing A rich text element can be used with static or d
ynamic content. For static content\, just drop it into any page and begi
n editing. For dynamic content\, add a rich text field to any collection
and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings pane
 l. Voila! How to customize formatting for each rich text Headings\, para
graphs\, blockquotes\, figures\, images\, and figure captions can all be
styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When
inside of" nested selector system. We Were Fridays is an interdisciplina
ry music project led by cellist Jeffrey Zeigler – a deeply personal expl
oration of cultural memory and diaspora. It follows a story that began i
n the Griot tradition of West Africa\, traveled to South Carolina via th
e Trans-Atlantic slave trade\, then north via the Great Migration\, and
beyond. We Were Fridays explores the music of the Gullah people of South
Carolina's Lowcountry\, a community that has preserved more of its West
African linguistic and cultural heritage than any other African America
n community in the United States. Gullah music has influenced spirituals
 \, gospel\, ragtime\, rhythm and blues\, soul\, hip hop\, and jazz. We W
ere Fridays will extend that reach into instrumental cello music. Told t
hrough cello\, electronics\, and dance\, We Were Fridays will explore fo
rbidden love\, fractured lines\, and complex legacies. As covered in The
New York Times\, We Were Fridays is one of the most significant works o
f cultural memory and diaspora to come to Brooklyn this fall. “My father
was raised in Philadelphia with no knowledge of his biological family u
ntil 1992\, when a woman named Burnice Perry contacted him. She became t
he grandmother I never knew\, tracing our lineage back to George Washing
 ton Friday. Before she passed\, I recorded hours of our conversations\;
those recordings are the heartbeat of this work…” – Jeffrey Zeigler\, ce
llist and project creator The work centers on new compositions from Etie
 nne Charles\, Tamar-kali\, Hannah Ishizaki\, and Jeffrey Zeigler\, and f
eatures choreography/dance from Flexn pioneer Reggie “Regg Roc” Gray\, p
lus a bespoke interactive book design from sister sylvester. The project
is deeply rooted in an ethos of community and intergenerational learnin
g\, partnering with the Penn Center on St. Helena Island\, South Carolin
a\, the University of Georgia Culture & Community program\, and the Week
sville Heritage Center to develop community engagement and education pla
tforms. This work brings together community members and elders\, along w
ith students and teachers\, to engage in dialogue\, conversation\, and c
reative exchange around the project’s themes of memory and diaspora. We
