DESCRIPTION:Ben Wizner\, Deputy Legal Director and Director\, Center for 
 Democracy of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU)\, will be the gue
 st speaker of our 2026 Howard C. Kaplan Memorial Lecture on Law and Soci
 ety. Registration required. Ben Wizner is a Deputy Legal Director at the
  ACLU and Director of its Center for Democracy\, which encompasses the o
 rganization’s work on free speech\, privacy\, immigrants’ rights\, votin
 g rights\, human rights and national security. Prior to assuming this ro
 le\, he was the director of the ACLU's Speech\, Privacy\, and Technology
  Project. In more than two decades at the ACLU\, he has litigated cases 
 involving the right to protest\, freedom of expression online\, governme
 nt surveillance practices\, airport security policies\, targeted killing
 \, and torture. Since July of 2013\, he has been the principal legal adv
 isor to National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden. Wizner is
  a graduate of Harvard College and New York University School of Law\, a
 nd was a law clerk to the Hon. Stephen Reinhardt of the U.S. Court of Ap
 peals for the Ninth Circuit. This lecture is part of the annual Howard C
 . Kaplan Memorial Lecture on Law and Society and is supported by the Sta
