About this event
All-in price (includes service charges): $29.50 GA, $47.50 reserved When: Monday 7:30 Spotlight: BrownTown isn’t just a comedy show – it’s a fan-favorite celebration of top South Asian and Middle Eastern comedians from across the nation. Additionally, the show includes a wildly popular Q&A where Badar, also a civil rights lawyer, poses outrageous, unrehearsed questions about race to a white comedian. Every BrownTown performance has sold out! This is a special BrownTown show presented in collaboration with The Muslim House®, which is produced by the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC)® Hollywood Bureau. The show features some of the best and brownest Muslim comedians around. Featuring: Badar Tareen, Nina Kharoufeh (headliner), Mahmoud Jaber, Yasmin Elhady, Mike Kurtz Badar Tareen is a civil rights attorney by day and an award-winning stand-up comedian and filmmaker by night. Known for his sharp, energetic, and analytical comedy, Badar captivates audiences with his wit and engaging presence, drawing rich material from his day job, family, and background as a Pakistani Muslim who grew up in a small town in North Dakota. He has opened for comedians like Zarna Garg, Aparna Nancherla, Akaash Singh, Tony Woods, and Marcello Hernandez, and has been featured at over a dozen comedy festivals, performing at clubs across the U.S., Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. In 2024, he was selected to headline his own show at the DC Capital Fringe Festival, which received the “Best of the Fest” designation and was featured in The Washington Post. This year, Forbes named Badar as one of the 12 Rising AAPI Stand-Up Comedians To Watch. Instagram: @badartareen Nina Kharoufeh is an Arab-American Muslim stand-up comedian, author, and amateur boxer who quite literally wears her religion on her head. A hijabi since age 13, Nina has built her comedy around being unapologetically herself. Her stand-up explores identity, faith, relationships, and the absurdities of navigating everyday life as a Muslim woman in America. A graduate of Montclair State University’s College of the Arts, Nina has performed across the U.S. and internationally. She even hosted a series on TLC called Match Me Abroad. Nina is also the author of the children’s book I’m a Princess Too, which follows a young Muslim girl learning to embrace her identity and is available wherever books are sold. Whether she’s on stage, on screen, in the ring, or writing for the next generation, Nina brings humor, honesty, and a perspective entirely her own. Instagram: @ninakharoufeh Born in Egypt, raised in Alabama, and armed with a sharp wit and even sharper legal mind, Yasmin Elhady has mastered the art of juggling identities without dropping the ball (or her kids). She’s the lawyer who’ll argue you under the table by day and have you ugly-laughing about it by night. Yasmin turned to comedy to roast life’s absurdities with fearless takes on faith, culture, and motherhood. She’s appeared on stages across the US and Europe—including The Kennedy Center—and been featured on NBC, NPR, Netflix Is a Joke Radio, and Hulu’s Muslim Matchmaker. Instagram: @yasminelhahahady Mahmoud Jaber is a Lebanese-American comedian hailing from Beirut and now based in Washington, D.C. He has performed at historic venues such as the Kennedy Center (before it was bad), the Lincoln Theatre (not to be confused with the theater where that bad thing happened to Abe Lincoln), and has featured for global acts such as Nataly Aukar, Nemr Abou Nassar, Sammy Obeid, and Neema Naz. Mahmoud's stand-up and sketch comedy find the absurd in the space between Arab and American cultures, and the mundane in the midst of war. His comedy has reached millions online. Instagram: @mahmoudjabs Mike Kurtz is a shameless anecdotal comedian representing PG County. He’s been on the comedy scene since 2018, both on the stage and behind the scenes. Mike won Comedy Kumite 37.1 (winter 2023) at the DC Improv. Instagram: @prettyhurtskurtz
