Andy Beshear, two-term Democratic Governor of Kentucky, beat his Republican opponent in 2024 by six percentage points, in a state which Trump won by 30 percentage points. Governor Beshear runs his state with clear moral vision and imperative. Due to a Republican supermajority in Kentucky’s state houses, Beshear routinely vetoes state legislation on reproductive freedom, on LGBTQ rights, on conversion therapy, on workers rights, and more– and his vetoes are frequently overridden. How does he manage to achieve such high approval ratings among Republican and Democratic voters? He not only enjoys high ratings, but in certain polls he is named as one of the most popular Democratic governors in the country, including among young voters.
