About this event

Join us in celebrating the release of local artist and author Doug E. L. Haynes' "The Humanities Building: Do you love it or hate it?" Following the previous "State Street Coloring Book" (a favorite at Leopold's Bookstore), Haynes' new project pairs his writing with his art in a series of 100 thoughtful sketches and stories. A native of Madison, Haynes' immensely prolific career has seen him create paintings, woodcuts, murals, and many other works in a diverse array of mediums. Notable projects include a series of 36 self-portraits created in 36 days while undergoing chemotherapy, as well as the beloved "Selfie Station," a bright and botanical piece outside the local Neighborhood House Community Center. Of late, he lent his proverbial pen to a Cap Times column criticizing MMOCA's exhibition of an artist most notable for work with generative AI, asking for artistic integrity to be prioritized more highly. Readers can look forward to a forthcoming interview with him in the paper.
