Founded in Tucson, Arizona by guitarists Justin Fernandez and Brian Scott, the group forged a sound that blends fiery Spanish guitar traditions with the intensity of rock, the fluidity of Latin rhythms, and the cinematic sweep of world music. Emerging in the mid-2000s, Tesoro quickly earned a reputation as innovators who could move seamlessly between intimate acoustic performances and full-scale stage productions. Their music has drawn comparisons to Rodrigo y Gabriela, Hermanos Gutiérrez, and Del Castillo, while remaining firmly their own – a modern rumba style rooted in flamenco but charged with improvisation, melody, and raw energy. “ZIA RECORD EXCHANGE DEEMS TESORO THE FLAMENCO ROCK KINGS.” Tesoro’s performances have reached audiences at festivals, performing arts centers, and special events throughout the Southwest and beyond. Their wide-ranging clientele includes international corporations as well as private performances for high-profile celebrities and elected officials including Alice Cooper, Gabrielle Giffords, Mark Kelly, and Bernie Sanders. “AN INTERESTING, COMPELLING BLEND OF TRADITIONAL FLAMENCO WITH A MODERN, YOUNGER EDGE.”— THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA After nearly a decade-long hiatus, Tesoro returned in 2025 with renewed energy and their most ambitious projects to date. Their studio album, Ascension, released May 2025, captures the band’s rebirth with nine tracks that fuse Tesoro’s flamenco-infused origins with a bold, cinematic sound. The record spans high-energy rumbas, ethereal instrumentals, and emotionally charged vocal pieces, reflecting both the band’s roots and evolution. In addition to the studio release,Tesoro issued two live albums in 2025: Livein Studio 2A, a raw and intimate session recording, and Live from the Orpheum (Volumes 1 & 2), captured during a fiery performance at the historic Orpheum Theater in Flagstaff, AZ. Together, these works showcase Tesoro’s versatility—equally powerful in the studio, on stage, or in stripped-down acoustic settings. “A GIFT FROM THE HEART… THIS GROUP REALLY APPEALS TO BOTH OLD AND NEW GENERATION AUDIENCES ALIKE.”— TUCSON WEEKLY AT THE HEART OF TESORO’S IDENTITY IS A BELIEF THAT MUSIC CAN TRANSCEND TRANSCEND LANGUAGE AND CULTURE. THEIR PERFORMANCES INVITE LISTENERS ON A JOURNEY—WHETHER THROUGH THE PULSE OF A RUMBA, THE CRY OF A FLAMENCO MELODY, OR THE ATMOSPHERIC BUILD OF THEIR CINEMATIC ARRANGEMENTS. WITH A TRACK RECORD OF PROFESSIONALISM, ARTISTRY, AND AUDIENCE CONNECTION, TESORO CONTINUES TO STAND AS ONE OF THE SOUTHWEST’S MOST DYNAMIC AND GENRE-DEFYING ENSEMBLES.
