Just a few years after the Civil War had ended, the nation faced the challenge of putting the nation back together. Dissatisfaction over President Andrew Johnson's reconstruction policies persuaded the war hero, Ulysses S. Grant to run for the office of president in 1868. Park historian Nick Sacco will explore the dynamics surrounding Grant's decision to seek the presidency and the ramifications of that decision, both politically and personally.
