To close out a memorable 2026 year honoring our country’s roots, we are honored to offer a special 4-week session with historian Doug MacIntyre on the broader context of the American Revolution and, more specifically, South Carolina’s importance. The course will delve into all aspects of the eight-year struggle, covering everything from general British and American strategies for rebellion and patriot and loyalist conflict to tensions between the Lowcountry and the backcountry, important people, and, of course, details on all of the key battles. For those looking to gain a deeper understanding, as well as the experienced history buff, all will enjoy this story-forward approach to better understanding the framework witnessed in Colonial Charleston. His research into the Battle of Sullivan’s Island led to the publication of his findings and the creation of Thomson Park at Breach Inlet. A fellow of the Southern Campaigns of the American Revolution, he served on the board of the South Carolina Historical Society and chaired the Fort Sumter – Fort Moultrie Historical Trust. He was a founding trustee of the South Carolina American Revolution Trust and co-founder of SC250 Charleston. MacIntyre earned a B.S. degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and served five years in the U.S. Army. He earned a M.S. degree in Business Administration with honors from Boston University and completed advanced management programs at Harvard and Stanford. His business career spanned the spectrum from startups to the Fortune 500 before he retired to Charleston in 2004. As president and CEO, he led technology companies through formation, global expansion, public offerings, mergers, and acquisitions. He served on industry and civic boards and was president of the American Software Association.
