About this event

The Presidential Dan and Carole Burack Lecture Series highlights the exceptional caliber of our campus scholars, scientists, artists and writers who are acknowledged as preeminent in their discipline, thus enriching the academic environment. Dr. Joshua Bongard is the Veinott Professor of Computer Science at the University of Vermont and director of the Morphology, Evolution & Cognition Laboratory. His work involves automated design and manufacture of inorganic robots as well as biological ones (so-called “xenobots”). A PECASE, TR35, and Cozzarelli Prize recipient, he has received funding from NSF, NIH, NASA, the Department of Defense, and the Sloan Foundation. He is the co-author of the book How The Body Shapes the Way We Think, the instructor of a reddit-based MOOC, and director of the outreach program Twitch Plays Robotics. Josh also is a UVM Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics; Co-Director, Computational Story Lab; Associate Director, Vermont Complex Systems Institute, University of Vermont; and Director of the Vermont Advanced Computing Center. Join us for this lecture discussing AI and its implications for research, learning, education, and careers. Coffee, tea, cookies and crudite refreshments available.
