About this event
Iconic Blonde, Sparkle. Celebrate. Believe. Nobody does heart, humor, and holiday sparkle quite like Dolly Parton. This holiday season, GMCLA unwraps a celebration of the holidays featuring music from this gay icon whose music has inspired generations with laughter, love and acceptance. Featuring beloved Dolly favorites including Coat of Many Colors, I Will Always Love You, Light of a Clear Blue Morning, Islands in the Stream, and Hard Candy Christmas, a new version of 9 to 5, alongside treasured holiday classics including Happy Xmas, Where Are You Christmas? O Holy Night, The Christmas Song, and Let It Snow. Heartfelt, hilarious, uplifting, and unmistakably gay, A Holly Dolly Holiday celebrates kindness, chosen family, and the joy of coming together at the most wonderful time of the year. GMCLA’s holiday concerts are always the highlight of the season in LA and, with a dash of Dolly, it will shimmer brighter than ever! GAY MEN’S CHORUS OF LOS ANGELES, under the leadership of Executive Director & Producer Lou Spisto and Artistic Director Ernest H. Harrison, is in its 48th year of music and service. GMCLA continues to garner acclaim for artistic excellence while remaining deeply rooted in service to the Los Angeles community and beyond by promoting civil rights, tolerance, and acceptance through music. Founded in 1979 during the emergence of the gay rights movement, GMCLA has raised its collective voice in the movement toward equality, social justice, the AIDS crisis, the fight for marriage equality, and all those seeking to find their own voice. Critics have proclaimed the Chorus “inspired” and “expressive, innovative and utterly moving,” and have hailed GMCLA for presenting “meaningful entertainment.” GMCLA’s free community concert program has provided access to concerts to thousands each year, and its innovative Alive Music Project has served over 100,000 high school students to date. GMCLA is delighted to return to LA’s historic Saban Theatre where our most recent season’s Holiday Legends, And The Beat Goes On, and Declarations of Independence were tremendously well received. The Chorus has performed at Walt Disney Concert Hall and Hollywood Bowl, Royce Hall and the Alex Theatre, has appeared at New York’s iconic Carnegie Hall and has toured throughout Europe, Russia, and South America. GMCLA returned from its overseas tour at World Pride in Amsterdam and London this past summer, performing to sold-out audiences at great concert halls like the Concertgebouw and St. Paul’s Church in Convent Garden. GMCLA was one of five ensembles invited to perform at World Pride Amsterdam. With these tours, as well as extensive output on YouTube and social media, the Chorus has followers across the globe and has represented the LGBT+ community and Los Angeles on a global stage.
