About this event

**PLEASE NOTE: May 11th and May 13th feature separate lectures subjects. As result, the content of each night is completely different! Tuesday, May 11th Lecture: An Astrophysicist Goes to the Movies – Part III Once again, derived from an entirely different set of films, including Frozen, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Happy Feet, The Matrix, and My Cousin Vinny. Including the physics of dragons in popular TV series such as Game of Thrones. Enjoy an entertaining and enlightening review of all the science that our favorite movies got wrong, combined with some of the stuff they got right. Incorporating recent films, as well as some classics you may not have known had any science in them at all. Thursday, May 13th Lecture: Hope for Civilization Inspired by Dr. Tyson’s bestselling book, Starry Messenger: Cosmic Perspectives on Civilization, here he offers a wake-up call to society that recasts some of the most discussed and debated topics of our times — war, politics, religion, truth, beauty, gender, race — each an artificial battlefield on the landscape of life, and returns them via a scientific lens that fosters accountability, wisdom, and especially peace in the service of civilization. About Neil deGrasse Tyson: Neil deGrasse Tyson is the fifth head since 1935 of the world-renowned Hayden Planetarium in New York City and the first occupant of its Frederick P. Rose Directorship. He is also a research associate of the Department of Astrophysics at the American Museum of Natural History.
