Staying Safe with Your Email and Personal Devices
Calendar
About this event
Our phones, tablets and laptops are an important part of our everyday lives, giving us access to email, banking, social media, work, school and personal information. With that convenience comes the need to understand how to protect our devices, information and online activity. In this session, we’ll explore simple steps you can take to stay safer when using your personal devices, browsing the web and connecting to public Wi-Fi. We’ll cover common threats and provide practical tips that can help you recognize suspicious websites, phishing attempts, unsafe downloads and other online risks. We’ll also take a closer look at public Wi-Fi, including what makes an unfamiliar network potentially risky, how to identify legitimate networks, and when it may be better to use cellular data or a personal hotspot. We’ll discuss VPNs, HTTPS, device updates, passwords, multi-factor authentication and other tools that can help protect your information. Student Attendance: No registration is required. Students are welcome to attend any session that interests them. Simply review the session details and arrive at the scheduled location a few minutes before the start time. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Staff and faculty can access the online training by registering through Workday here.
