Ole Mathisen Trio

About this event

Ole Mathisen -saxophone Kim Cass -bass Colin Stranahan -drums The newly formed Ole Mathisen Trio is making its first appearance at the Jazz Gallery! Central to the performance is Mathisen's latest multi-movement work "Majorana Zero Modes", a highly charged rhythmic and micro tonal exploit. The piece is inspired by the physicist Ettore Majorana's work on zero-energy quasiparticle excitations. Norwegian-born saxophonist and composer Ole Mathisen has been a celebrated figure on the New York and international jazz scenes for over three decades, and is renowned for his technical brilliance, adventurous compositions, and remarkable versatility across genres—including classical, jazz, electronic, and experimental music. The Jazz Gallery is a not-for-profit arts organization presenting emerging artists who challenge convention, take creative risks, and lead their field as performers, composers and thinkers. We provide a platform for artists to discover their unique voice and a home for established musicians to continue to experiment and grow. At The Jazz Gallery, artists and audiences come together from around the world to explore new creative ideas, collaborate and celebrate jazz as a dynamic art form that reflects our ever-changing world. We rely on the generosity of our members and community to keep the music playing, thank you for your continued and much appreciated support!
