About this event

Discover one of nature’s most extraordinary plants during this daily Water Garden Talk at Como Park Zoo & Conservatory. Meet the stunning Victoria Water Lilies—also known as “Water Platters”—floating in the gardens surrounding the Visitor Center. As the only public garden in Minnesota to grow and display these South American giants, Como offers a truly one-of-a-kind experience. Learn how these massive leaves—growing over six feet across—support surprising weight, and uncover the fascinating three-night blooming cycle of their flowers, which change color, scent, and function as part of an incredible pollination process. You’ll also hear how Como’s horticulture team carefully grows and maintains these delicate plants each year. Best viewed in peak bloom from late July through early August, this short talk brings you up close to a remarkable summer tradition you won’t want to miss.
