About this event

Join us for a gathering of five writers -- Francesca Lia Block, Hannah Eko, Laurel Ollstein, Tracey K. Zakai, Siouxsie Q, and Daniel N Birnbaum -- whose work approaches difficult experiences with honesty, tenderness, humor, beauty, and a little darkness. The central question of the evening is: What has making art allowed you to survive, understand, transform, or tell the truth about? Each writer will briefly respond to that idea and read work that speaks to it, followed by conversation about what creativity actually does for us during difficult times. I’m especially interested in getting beyond the easy “art heals” answer and talking honestly about why we make things from the experiences that hurt us--especially during this time when so much pain is at the forefront of people's minds. About the participants: Francesca Lia Block, MFA is the author of more than thirty books and editor of Lit Angels on Substack. She teaches creative writing at Antioch University Los Angeles, UCLA Extensio
