'Songs of the Fedayeen' with the Brooklyn Nomads
Calendar
About this event
7pm, Music 7:30pm Sliding Scale $15-35 Join us for a night of music and a group singalong with the Brooklyn Nomads! The Brooklyn Nomads play songs from the Palestinian diaspora and will interpret music from "Songs of the Fedayeen," a 1970 songbook created by a Palestinian Solidarity group to support guerrilla fighters in Palestine following the 1967 war. The songs blend traditional Arabic instrumentation with a Western military inflection. Guerrilla radio stations played these songs in refugee camps and in Cairo in the late 1960s and 70s. The Nomads will interpret the songs, we'll have a conversation about the revolutionary moment post-1968, and then finish the evening with music celebrating Palestinian struggle and resistance since the 1970s, including modern diasporic music. This show is in collaboration with Interference Archive's exhibition of radical songbooks, Call & Response.
