About this event
@ Courtesy of Caldbeck Gallery This class takes place over three consecutive days; Monday, September 13th – Wednesday, September 15th. Inspired by the Farnsworth Mural Project: Carly Glovinski, this hands-on workshop explores the wonderful native and varied gardens of Maine. During this class, students will paint on-site in several gardens, gathering inspiration from the floral landscape through plein air painting and sketchbook studies. Working primarily in oil paint, students will learn to organize and lay out a palette, set up an easel, choose a composition, and develop a painting. We will look at other artists who work in large formats and learn how to enlarge our own on-site sketches and drawings to make a big statement, with the mural format in mind. Students will use a sketchbook to study the landscape through line and shape, the design of the rectangle, light and dark values, warm and cool color relationships, and abstract structure. Specific projects focused on composition, c
