Oct 21st 2026 Events @ Princeton Garden Theatre Wed 10/21 @ 7:00PM Princeton Garden Theatre, 160 Nassau Street Tickets available here Sean Wilentz, Professor of American History at Princeton University, will introduce this screening of the documentary Bob Dylan: DONT LOOK BACK and lead a discussion after the film, as well as sign copies of his new book Bob Dylan: Through the Open Window, 1956–1963. D.A. Pennebaker’s groundbreaking documentary DONT LOOK BACK captures Bob Dylan during his 1965 tour of England, his final tour as an acoustic artist. The film follows Dylan backstage, in conversation with journalists, and alongside fellow musicians Joan Baez and Alan Price. Featuring performances of classics like “The Times They Are A-Changin’,” the film offers an intimate look at an artist at a pivotal moment in his career. A landmark of cinéma vérité filmmaking, DONT LOOK BACK helped redefine the modern music documentary. Click here to purchase tickets from Princeton Garden Theatre. Sean Wilentz is the George Henry Davis 1886 Professor of American History at Princeton University. As well as being a highly respected academic historian, the author of several award-winning books, and a recognized public intellectual, Wilentz is a renowned Dylanologist and two-time Grammy nominee for his work on liner notes for archival releases. Sean’s latest publication is Bob Dylan: Through the Open Window, 1956–1963, a revelatory journey through Dylan's early life and meteoric rise. An illustrated account of Dylan and his early work, from his origins in Minnesota to his time in Greenwich Village to the concert at Carnegie Hall that marked the end of the beginning of his career, the book traces his meteoric rise with expert commentary and an astounding collection of rare photographs and ephemera, many never before published. The text is a substantial expansion of Wilentz's liner notes to Dylan's bootleg album box set of the same name, which offers a unique aural record—rare outtakes, informal tapes, and the full Carnegie Hall concert. Here the narrative is enriched with additional commentary and special sections that illuminate both well-known and hidden facets of Dylan's early career. This event is co-sponsored by Princeton Garden Theatre and Labyrinth Books.
