About this event
Location: First Church - Sanctuary (66 Marlborough St, Boston, MA). Ends 3:00 PM. Two exceptional thinkers address the urgent issue of what it means to be human in an age of AI. From Sherry Turkle —our foremost chronicler of digital culture and human psychology—comes an instant touchstone: Artificial Intimacy: Who We Become When We Talk to Machines. Lauded by Jonathan Haidt, Esther Perel, Vivek Murthy, and more, Turkle’s book examines how our growing dependence on artificial intimacy erodes our ability to connect and care deeply for each other. Joining her will be Eric C. So, whose “clear-eyed, nuanced, and highly accessible” (PW, starred) new book, The Collision: What AI Does to Us, offers an indispensable guide to using AI as a tool—not as a replacement for human intelligence, empathy, and creativity. Guiding this vital conversation will be Moira Weigel, whose research centers on the history and social life of communication technology. This session is sponsored by the Lyric Stage Boston. Bookseller: Trident Booksellers & Cafe
