About this event
Location: Boston Public Library - Orientation Room (700 Boylston Street, Boston, MA 02116). Ends 11:00 AM. As our nation grapples with far-reaching anti-immigrant sentiment, this session takes up questions about how to engage U.S. readers on the subject of people often othered in American culture. Moderated by Alexis Chen Johnson, the panel features memoirists whose stories span three centuries and countries from Colombia to China: Xujun Eberlein (The River Drowns the Able Swimmer), Lorena Hernández Leonard (Salsipuedes: Leave If You Can), and Margaret Woo (The City of Jade Trees). How did they craft the landscapes of their stories for readers that may never experience those settings firsthand? How did they make the past legible for present-day readers? How did they work with the diverse cultures and languages that shaped their personal histories? Come to this session to learn how these writers shaped global narratives. Bookseller: Belmont Books
