About this event

Location: Boston Public Library - Exhibition Hall (700 Boylston St. Boston, MA 02116). Ends 11:30 AM. Who are the ghosts we carry? What losses permeate our communities? Three novels explore the many ways grief haunts us. “A morally complex and life-affirming exploration” (Celeste Ng), Christopher Castellani’s Last Seen follows boys who disappear, then turn up in icy rivers far from home. As their families mourn, the boys begin to find each other in the afterlife and tell their own stories. In Tom Perrotta’s “wise, funny, bittersweet” (Jayne Anne Phillips) Ghost Town, a middle-aged writer looks back on a tumultuous summer in 1970s suburban New Jersey and the personal grief that envelops him as a tense public drama unfolds. April Reynolds offers “a song of furor and tenderness” (Walter Mosley) in The Shape of Dreams, as three women bond in East Harlem while their neighborhood seeks justice for the murder of a 12-year-old Black boy. Join Boston Globe books editor Kate Tuttle for this searching conversation. This session is sponsored by the Boston Globe. Bookseller: Brookline Booksmith
