About this event
Join us at Pope Memorial Library on November 8th at 1pm for a talk with Margie Bucheit, author of "We Chose Resistance." On the 80th anniversary of WWII’s end, author Margie Bucheit’s historical novel highlights the risk & courage of the French Resistance. Although a work of fiction, "We Chose Resistance" builds on heroic actions taken by everyday citizens during a time of war, building upon both anecdotal stories and verified facts to bring readers into the heart of the action in the spring of 1944. Through interviews with those connected to history-changing events in central France in 1944, Bucheit’s novel illustrates the struggles Resistance members faced when they chose to fight back, refusing to allow the destruction of their peaceful, democratic way of life. About the Author Margie Bucheit, a journalist, author, and history enthusiast, has written her first novel. "We Chose Resistance" is set in the spring of 1944 as the Allies prepare to invade Europe and liberate it. The author lives half of the year in the Loire Valley region where her novel takes place and spent five years researching the region’s rich Resistance history. Her efforts uncovered a wealth of information about little-known actions taken by small bands of these volunteer fighters, actions that helped assure an Allied victory.
